I was reading an article that these 2 convertibles were competing at one point. Well, 20 years later, looks like the sc430 has won. The resale value on the CLK is awful. You can buy one from 4k to 9k. Low miles are 9k, high miles for 4k. Why such awful resale. Anyone remember these cars

 

CLK is not comparable. C class were the lowest class at the time. SL is comparable.

 

Well slk was the base, then clk, then sl. But yeah the sc430 was a sl competitor. I did cross shop slk55 before I got my sc, but the numbers didn't work and only two seats. Clk sl all will have top hydraulic issues eventually.

 

You may be surprised, (note my user name). but before I purchased my SC430 I was in the market for a Mercedes SL. I looked at quite a few models from R107 (1971–1989) · R129 (1988–2001) · R230 (2000–2011) even an R231. I had been a Mercedes guy for over 20 years. The R107s were getting too old and most needed a lot of work. The newer ones, as nice as they looked, couldn't compare to the Lexus reliability.
