Simple question, my mast got bent in the carwash, do I just remove the nut around the old bent mast, turn on the radio and pull it out? I can't seem to find the tsib EL004-02 that is referenced in old threads. And reverse this procedure to install new one? Thanks in advance
As long as the nylon cord isn't broken then yes you pull the antenna out as you're cycling power. This guy shows the entire procedure it should give you some hints.
Yes that is a viable option. You do realize that the rear antenna is just for the AM. The FM antenna is in the windshield. So if you do not listen to AM just disconnect the rear antenna.

I did not know that the telescoping antenna was AM only. I don't like the look of the deployed antenna. Is there an easy way to eliminate the antenna from deploying? I primarily listen to spotify.
The previous owner replaced the stock head unit with a Sony XAV-AX20o. Is it possible to eject the old power antenna all the way now that I don't have the TUNER-DISC button option? My non-OEM antenna is not extending all the way up and upon retraction is making a grinding noise, probably the motor gears against the nylon cord teeth.
You can. It will take 2 people though. One turns on key. Other holds antenna after fully extended. Other turns off key. Let antenna motor run. Then turn key on. Remainder of antenna will come out.
There's your problem. The cheapest "compatible" antennas have a smaller diameter toothed cord that is almost compatible. I got a cheap one. Threw it away. Got a more expensive compatible one that worked.
Thanks. I got it out and tried 2 or 3 times to reinstall it to no avail. It raises and lowers no problem, but the grinding noise continues once retracted fully, almost as if the motor doesn't know when to shut off. Is there some kind of switch inside that senses resistance and turns off the mechanism once the antenna is all the way down?
I would bet money part of the gear cable inside the motor has broken. Remove the antenna, remove the motor and open the cover on the motor and take a look.
