So, I've got an 06 and the brake light was out and thought nothing of it but after finding out that I have to replace the entire assembly(and it costs about $200 for a new one) I'm going to try to tear it down and then reassemble it. Does anyone have any experience or have a guide for it?
I have a 2005 and just had a brake light go out.
I was able to remove the assembly and replace the burnt out bulb. It was so easy, I ended up replacing both tail lights and the blinker lights.
I am not sure if the 2006 changed so much that you need an entirely new assembly.
Have you tried a youtube video? That is how I found out how to change mine.

They went to LEDs on the 06. the entire assembly has to be replaced.

I have a "new" one on order, and when I get that in I'm going to try to repair the one that I have now. Has anyone ever done that here? Or have any resources to help with that?

I have never heard of someone doing that. Unless I miss my guess, the LEDs are soldered onto a circuit board and are not replaceable. Just Guessing!

Yeah that's what I read, I'm more than willing to try to tear it apart and see if I can 'repair' it. If not worst case I just end up wasting a few hours of my time.
Any way to convert the 06+ years to use the older ones? Because I much prefer changing a bulb over an entire assembly. Passenger side just went out for me.
