More hardtop roof issues
Hello,
I have a 2003 Lexus SC430 and the hardtop roof stop working. I have read all of the posts where everyone helped Banjo1 with his problem in August 2023. But my problem is a little different.
The vehicle sat for a year until I found the time to use it and get it running - new battery. The roof worked fine approximately a dozen times. Yesterday, I pressed the dash switch and the two small windows went down a few inches and the trunk started to lift an inch or two. Then everything stopped and the trunk lowered back down. (I pushed it down to make sure all the way down) The red light on the switch is constant (not blinking). It chimes constantly while driving. I can not open the trunk. I tried the Valet button. I disconnected the battery. I can not access the fuses as I can't open the trunk.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Rodger, your roof is physically closed, but according to the computer, not in the "closed state." You need to push the close button to engage the locks and stop the dinging.
The Roof on an SC is a mixture of motors, locks & micro switches. It sounds like either one of your hinge motors was running slower than the other, or possibly one of the microswitches didn't open/close at the right time.
In order to get the exact problem, you need to get the Toyota specific codes. In order to do that, you need to go to a Toyota/Lexus dealer, an independent Toyota shop or somehow access techstream (toyotas factory software) or a scanner that can read toyota codes.
You can drive really fast over a speedbump and that might knock the switch back into place, but it is most likely not a long term fix.

A couple of us live here and have the Toyota software to check those codes.
Its going to be a couple hundred $$$ to get a dealer to read the codes.
regardless, report back with your findings
