Default Steering colums wheel squeeks while turning

My 2006 SC430 has developed a squeak while I'm rotating the steering wheel. It occurs while stationary or moving. Tried spraying silicone behind the steering wheel. Any other suggestions?

It is an assembly inside the steering column that carries the electrical signals from the steering wheel to the systems in the car such as the radio. They do wear out but I do not know if they make noise when they do. It rotates around the column as you turn the wheel. Noise is certainly possible. You access it by taking off the steering wheel. Not as bad a job as you might imagine.
