I am restoring my 2003 SC430. I love this car and do not want to break ties with it. The problem is, I need a new engine. Does anyone have suggestions on where I can find one?
Many thanks for considering my request.
Linda
Your best bet (in my opinion) is to get a "JDM" engine. Those are engine that came out of cars in the country of Japan. They have some funky emissions law there that says your car can't be over a certain age (Without a high tax being applied), so people scrap low mile cars all the time. Companies take the engines out and sell them all across the world.
The same engine in your car is in all kinds of other vehicles (Sequoia, Tundra, LS430, GX430) You want one that came out of a SC or LS. Though they are the same engine block, they are not necessary the same engine setup.
Also, I have never done this, so double check everything I told you.
My vehicle ran hot one day. Although I let it cool off, before the tow truck arrived, my husband started it and drove approximately 2 miles and it shutdown…the engine ceased. I had it towed to Lexus service department and that was their diagnosis.

guessing the radiator tank cracked, common problem, and was low on fluid when your husband drove the car.
you will usually find the red/pink antifreeze leaking from the radiator…do you see stains?
No stains…the funny thing is, I had serviced two weeks before. So no indication anything was wrong. I agree with you that the radiator tank cracked and all the fluid leaked out.
Sorry to hear. Who serviced it last, a Lexus dealer? What kind of service was provided? It could be that something was "missed" on the last service. These cars just do not die.

That is correct, and these cars do not die! All my services are done at the Lexus service department. Chantilly has been my go-to for over 20 years. I trust them cause they have been very good to me.
