Tpms
Well, after changing my air and cabin filters today I went for a drive and saw that my tpms light was on. I pulled over to check my tires and they were fine so I drove on thinking that one of my sensors had a dead battery and started researching how to bypass the system and turn out the light. In looking into it I found that there is a button next to the glove box that could be the problem. I opened the box and read the button....it said trunk opener...well I pressed it anyway and bingo the tpms light went out. I must have pressed it while changing the cabin filter ..causing my problem. The button didn't say anything about tires and I wonder how many folks have pressed it by mistake and thought that they had a TPMS problem. Hmmmm
There are two buttons, inside the glove box, one on the left and one on the right. The one on the right is for the TPMS. As indicated above, you can have two different sets of tires and toggle the switch back and forth depending on which set of tires you have installed. The switch has two settings, "Main and 2nd". Usually, you have the primary set for the "Main" setting. The "2nd" setting is for your second set of tires. Both sets of tires have to have the proper sensors, are in good operating condition and they have to be registered to the vehicle. If you hit that switch while changing out the cabin air filter, that would explain the issue.
The button on the left side of the glove box and the one shown in the photo above is for the "Trunk lid opener main switch". This is sometimes called the "valet switch". If you do not want to activate the trunk lid opener system, you can turn it off. This switch has to be "on" in order for the retractable hardtop to function. That button has nothing to do with the TPMS system.
Vehicle model years 2007-2010 have a reset button, used for the initialization procedure. This sets the threshold tire pressure. Your TPMS will activate at 5 to 6 psi below this threshold pressure. Your owner's manual gives the procedure for the initialization process.
