Default Headlight Auto Leveling Not Working

My passenger side auto leveling is not working anymore and is just pointing downwards.

So does this mean the headlight is shot and need a new headlight? Or just the motor is dead and I can buy a new motor? If so aprx. how much are they? Are these a dealer only item?

Thanks

A new headlamp motor will cost you around $160.
I don't think there is an aftermarket one for it.

A used headlamp would still cost more than $160, I believe.

Maybe you can try local junkyard.

Or you can also PM Sewell Lexus or Carson Toyota. Both of them should be able to give you a better price.

What year is this?

Assume the leveling failure light on the dash is on?

I have a 2005 sc430 how do I know if the auto leveling is working. I have read the manual and it only makes referance to a warning light on dash. Is there another way to tell if it is working . I never hear any motor noise. I thought perhaps you could explain it. THE manual is useless. I dont know If I have the correct understanding of exactly what auto leveling is.?

Mrblister,

Best way to see the auto-leveling in action is to start the car inside somewhere. when the car starts, the headlights come on and, if you look at the wall in front of you, you'll see them go down...then back up again. That's the auto-leveler calibrating the headlights.

Sorry to bring this back, but...

On a recent accident, they replaced my headlamps.

It used to be that when I turn on the headlamps, they go down and up.

Now, it does not do anything. It just turns on.

What could this be?

It could be they did not re-connect the auto height control level system, or it could be the Headlamp leveling ECU is fried or maybe the motor, or the sensor may have been damaged in the collision and they didn't realize it .... time to get under the car and check it out.

Well they adjust the lamps as the load changes in the car. Think about it this way...if you were carrying a heavy load in our spacious trunk and did not have a headlamp leveling system, the lamp would be raised upward, or pointing skyward. A direct result of the loading on the suspension while reducing the effectiveness of the lighting.

"The Headlamp Control System takes care of refocusing the beam back on the road automatically. Sensors on the front and rear axle detect the horizontal level of your car and adjusts the lights according."
