Default DIY gold emblems to Chrome in about 3 hours

I have been looking for deal on chrome emblems for awhile. My gold ones were getting tired plus they just don’t give the look I want, they are kinda 90’s if you know what I mean. I got to thinking, Gold goes on top of chrome and the gold always wears off the chrome so what can I do to get rid of the gold?
I decided to take a chance and try, no guts no glory!
Here is what you will need.
  • Heat gun or hair dryer
  • Buffing wheel for a drill or die grinder
  • Metal polish I like Blue magic
  • Two sided emblem tape
  • Some razor blades
  • WD40
  • Prep solvent
  • One gallon can of patience
  • And about three hours
Lets start with a before shot.

Now using the heat gun gently warm the emblem up. Use a credit card to lift the emblem and start cutting the adhesive with a blade, slowly! It will break!
Once you have it off use the WD40 to remove the glue on the car.

Clean it with a prep type solvent.
Now stick new adhesive tape to it. I always use 3m trim adhesive. Once you stick it to it you will need to trim all around it with a razor blade.

Now clean the car with a prep type solvent and stick it on. Walla! Chrome!

Repeat for all the emblems and here is how it looks.
