I'm completely stumped. I picked up a '95 SC300 the other day and on the long drive home everytime I go to fill up the gas pump shuts off after only a few tenth's of a gallon. I can eventually fill up but this is a super PITA.
This happens on every pump I've been to and no matter how much or how little I push the handle the flow will cut off after a few seconds. Anyone have any experience with this kind of problem or have any suggestions?
next time you fill up try holding back the plastic cover on the nozzle. it could be your filler neck spout is bent and causing the nozzle to think you're tank is already full.
I had this problem for the entire 6 months I owned my SC. It was a huge PITA! The only way it wouldn't do this for me is if I lightly held the gas handel and did it slow, otherwise it would shut off very often.
It does this in my Conquest, I have to find the right angle for it not to shut off. The angle is normally adjusting the handle towards the front of the car. Though be careful, one time it overflowed about half a gallon. I was inside the store getting something.
Thats funny because I have this problem not on my sc300, but on a 98 Accord. Still haven't figured it out and yes it is more annoying than anything. Someone said to check if the filler pipe is pinched which should be on the passenger side wheel well for the sc300. Although I have not checked it on the Accord yet.
I've tried all sorts of crazy angles trying to get it to not shut off. I had asked the previous owner about it but he said that never happened for him, maybe I just don't have the magic touch.
that happens to me occasionally, i found that putting the nozzle only partially in the hole takes care of the problem.....just enought so the gas doesn't go all over the place
next time you're trying to pump gas, when opening the gas cap, turn it slowly. This happened on my LX and the dealer said to turn it slowly to release the vapors of the gas. Then you should be on your merry way and paying too much for gas.
only happens in my SC at certain gas stations. at my local Hess station, it happens all the time. as above, just pull the nozzle out a little bit and it flows freely. i would say happens randomly about 25% of the time, no rhyme or reason.
