Have a 1998 SC400 with a little over 288,000 miles. #+ years ago the rear main and oil pan gasket were replaced. Now 2 shops, one a Lexus Dealer and the other a local guy say the engine is leaking at those 2 places, the front cam shaft seals and something they're calling the upper crank case seal. The shop (Toyotas Only in Sacramento) the did the rearmain/oil pan seal said to make sure whcih ever shop I took it to a repair place that used a fluourecent dye added to the oil to definitely find the oil leaks. They claim due to air currents in the engine compart ment tha toil can be pushed around th eengine bay and make sit difficult to actually find a leak. No one out here in Florida has ever heard of that. I have no oil on my garage floor. I'm adding about 1/3 a quart of oil every 2 months. stimates at Lexus are approaching $4000 for thes erepairs AND they say there might be other leaks undetected at this point.. Has anyone had their v-8 rebuilt and of so what's the outcome been? Was it worth it?

When I worked in NorCal the Maintenance guy took his LS400 to his local guy and he resealed his entire engine. A Toyota specialist if I remember correctly. I can look for his number, if you want it.
