Default Do I need an aftermarket ECU?

1995 SC400, do I need too buy an aftermarket ECU too have a performance tune put onto the vehicle? It will be being dyno tuned too add a little power and I知 uncertain if I値l need an aftermarket ECU. IF so what ECU should/would I need too get in order for what I知 wanting too work?

For an SC400 with the naturally aspirated 1UZ-FE I think, depending on what kind of tuning you are planning on having done, that you may want to consider an aftermarket ECU, yes. Making significant power from a 1UZ is expensive and nearly always involves forced induction unless you've got a 4.7L bottom end, aftermarket rods and pistons, Kelford (or other) cams, etc.

The stock SC400 ECU won't be as ideal handling boost pressure as an aftermarket ECU will be.

Are you going for an all-motor build, a custom twin turbo setup, Eaton M-112 roots supercharger setup?

All motor for the moment, because I知 in the grey on all the alteration and modifications I値l need to adapt the M-112 onto it. I was primarily just looking too have it mildly dyno tune too see what I can push all stock and make myself a little base line too start on and go from there. But if I wasn稚 satisfied with what I could get going the all motor built I would go the Supersharger route because I壇 prefer it last throughout the life of the motor(126kmiles on the odometer). I知 also looking for input on which ECU would work best for my vision but I don稚 know exactly persay what the idea is.

look on the megasquirt forums for 1uz info, you can pick up a little power but probably not a whole lot over the stock ecu without other mods.
The early 1uz in the sc400 shares the connector with the 2jzge so you can also use standalones also meant for the 2j as long as they have enough extra outputs and you also need a custom calibration if they don't offer one. for the more popular ecu's you can find stuff online, buts its not as straight forward as the 2jz stuff is.
superchargers for the 1uz get complicated, some do custom turbo setups, either one a aftermarket ecu is a good idea.

I would personally suggest getting a drop in dry flow filter, more free flowing exhaust, overhaul the suspension and maybe a manual trans swap and lsd would let you put down the most you are already making out of your 1uz, as they do make decent power stock.
The stock ecu will be fine until you add boost, it runs rich for the most part anyways. good luck!!
