Riding Redline for awhile...Engine starts stalling...?
On my way to my usual college frat party last night, I was going around 60MPH on the Northern State when I saw a brand new silver Porshe Carrera S...He pulls up next to me and punches it, so I thought to myself...Hey, why not? I can't back out on some fun on the highway...Knowing pretty well that he'll smoke me like I was standing still, I punched it anyway...Since he had a head start and had a 7 car lead, I was playing catch up...I turned my OD off and my Power mode on...I was riding redline going 120MPH, then my engine started to stall going at 130MPH and lost a lot of power...
I let off on the gas and then the car was running normal again...
Is it normal for the engine to lose that much power and stall riding redline?

i think it's cuz you had ur OD off..... the OD acts as the fourth gear.... with that off you only gonna hit the speed you indicated at redline.... turn on OD at that moment and you should hit to about 150

I really don't want to be an a-hole on this thread, BUT...
why travel that fast unless all by yourself and in a safe environment anyway?
I don't really see how its a "glaring omission" if Lexus decided to cut out at 130?
Sorry.. Just thinking about safety after my own stupid experience at high speeds, don't mean to bring you all with me.

LexAnt has the answer.
The SC400 is looking to change gear from 3rd to O/D after you reach 116mph with PWR mode ON. It obviously 'holds' a little longer than that allowing you to reach a higher speed but eventually the ECT says enough is enough and cuts the fuel.
We have the exact same problem with Japanese V8 Soarers running in the UK, they are 'factory' limited to around 118mph. Some owners have the factory limit 'delimited' but they experience the 'fuel cut' at around 128mph on full throttle, they have to back off a little and allow the transmission to change from 3rd to O/D and then they can continue.
The SC400 , as already mentioned, will let you keep going to around 150mph.
