Ok, i keep ordering mounts for a 94 supra and i get these long *** hunks of metal that are about 2" too long. First from powerhouse, now oem. I need the stubby ones. I am so completely confused! HELP!!

I was going insane after spending $500+ on engine mounts in the last week with no success, so i drove over to Toyota/Lexus of Melbourne with both sets of mounts, right and wrong. We decided that for some weird reason i needed 98 mounts, was my clip a 98?!?, it wasn't suppost to be. The Lexus mounts look to be identical to the mounts on the supra engine.

 

If it was then you may have VVTi. Heeheh.

It all depends on what year your motor was Matt. The 98 mounting brackets for the motor mounts where shorter than the previous years, making the motor mounts longer. You just have to make sure you match up the appropriate motor mounts to what year those mount brackets are on the block.

From what i understand there are only 2 types of supra motor mounts. The 93-95 which are longer and the 96-98 which are about 2" shorter. Obviously the 94 mounts i ordered are incorrect, so the newer ones must be the right ones. I just find it very strange that my 94 supra clip (obdI ecu to be sure) has 96+ mounts. But than again there are almost always weird suprises on modded jdm clips. I ordered the new mounts and they should be here monday.

Haha, old post, but yeah. I found out that the mounts from a 97-98 supra are the same as my 92 lexus sc300. Although, some cars have the same 93-96 mounts, so who knows. But there are only 2 types, long and short which is easy to visually distinguish. Cars using the short mounts have a bracket (#3) which extends down farther. Those pictured above are the LONG mounts for a 93-96 mkiv.

 

Well after doing my 120k or so PM, well almost done (COSTING A LOT OF MONEY), I think I have found my vibration/clunking problem. The passenger mount is sheared in half. I have seen the dealer version run about $110. Is there any aftermarket units, Toyota model, or any one got one for sale??

you want some good advice??? you lose hp and torque with motor mounts soo i would suggest simply welding your engine to the frame if its done right u will never have problems with mounts again. I did it to my old car and it worked out fine

the motor mounts are there so the engine can flex a bit.

 

Well I know he is kidding. Is that was the case, all mounts would cease to exist . hehehhe The motor needs to give and it is not a horsepower or torque loss by no means...

 

haha im serious i really did weld the motor of my last car to the frame and it worked out perfect

now im not completely sure about hp and torque loss but thats simply what i was told but either way i kept breaking motor mounts in my old car .. well truck actually due to the amount of torque this deffinatly solved my problem

 

Welding the motor directly to the body is such a bad idea. It will prolly give you some more torque to the wheels, but say goodbye to ride quality

 

this is true i did feel a decrease in the quality of the ride but this was also in a truck so it wasnt much of a difference to me really
