I have a 97 0bd2 car would i still need a stand-alone ECU for turbo or could i get away with a stock ecu? Thanks only looking to put out like 350!!

 

Not sure if they still make things like he Apexi S-AFC2, but for 350 a piggyback would be fine.

You want a standalone or GTE ecu conversion.
OBD2 ecus are smart and learn piggybacks. The only way to get a SAFC device to work on OBD2 is to set them to only activate at 100% throttle when the car goes into open loop.

My car is a 97 SC300 and I have a SAFC2. I used to alter my fueling and while I noticed it made a difference right away, after 3 on/off cycles and somewhere past 50 miles the car would cancel out my "tune" on anything below ~90% throttle.
My car has always been NA so I wasn't in any danger of blowing things up, but if you are planning turbo don't even consider a piggyback because there's going to times where you are at partial throttle in boost and the piggyback device will have no control over your tune at all.

If 350whp is what you want, do the GTE ecu conversion. Get a 97 GTE ecu. Then you can be turbo and drive your car year round like it came stock with a GTE motor. It also opens the door for more power in the future if you choose
