Default Noise in dash or steering column

I'm getting a strange noise from the drivers side of the dash when i start my car. It sounds like the motors for the steering wheel movement are cycling. It's not a grinding noise, but more like the motors are starting and stopping. The steering wheel operates up/down and in/out no problems, just the noise starts when the key is in the start position. And when I get the motor noise the steering wheel isn't moving. Could this be the ecu for the steering position movements? Any comments would be helpful.

No one has had this problem? It sounds like the steering wheel position motors are activating, but the steering wheel isn't moving. And it only happens when the key is in the start position, if this helps.

There is a button on the side of the steering column that controls the auto tilt function. With auto tilt on, it will move the wheel out of your way when you turn the ignition off and then back into position when you start the car. I turned mine off just so it wouldn't wear out. That doesn't explain where your noise is coming from, but turning that function off may make it quit. You could also try resetting the memory settings to see if that does anything.
