Exclamation Third brake light for SC400?

Hello, I got a fix-it ticket the other day because the third brake light on my SC400 is out. I thought this would be an easy fix, but I've been struggling to find a replacement part. A guy at an auto parts store sold me two bulbs which aren't compatible, and all the aftermarket replacement third-brake lights I see on places like eBay are not compatible. I tried to post in the Marketplace here that I'm searching for this part but it said I didn't have permission. I mean no disrespect if I'm posting this in the wrong place (very new to this forum) but I was wondering if any one had any advice as to where to find this part? And is it even possible to find just the brake light, or do I need to replace the whole spoiler w/ the light in it? Thank you for any help.

Hey megd0g,

That royally sucks. First, does your SC400 have the factory spoiler with the LEDs or do you have the small twin conventional bulb 3rd brake light just inside the rear window?

The conventional 3rd brake light setup that came in SC's not originally equipped with rear spoilers is as simple as removing the 3rd brake like cover (which is also a cover for the subwoofer) *carefully* by pulling up on just the two rear corners and then sliding it back towards you. Then you have to disconnect a short connector that feeds power to the two conventional brake light bulbs.

If you have just a flat subwoofer speaker cover back there and your car has a factory spoiler with the LED lights then you will need to either replace the spoiler's internal LED light assembly (after removing the spoiler to gain internal access and disconnecting its wires) or you can have that plastic encased LED strip sent out to be rebuilt by a couple of outfits online.

If it is the LED brake light strip in the spoiler that is affected then it is only that part of it that needs to be replaced-- NOT the entire spoiler.

Is your SC400 a 1992-1996 or a 1997-2000?

To find a used one, go into ebay and search this set of keywords: "Lexus SC300 SC400 spoiler brake light OEM". It will just be a red plastic assembly you will be looking for. Asking prices vary.
