I have a 1991 Toyota Soarer (Lexus sc300) with the 1jz twin turbo and manual transmission. When I got the car it had a bad clutch so I just replaced the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch fork, and slave cylinder. When I got it all back together and started driving it, I noticed that the clutch was really soft, and it was hard to get it gear. While driving there is intermittent extreme grinding noises that I believe are coming from the transmission. I was thinking maybe because the slave needs bled and the transmission isn't going into gear completely? I honestly have no idea what it could be. There's no metal shavings in the transmission fluid and I changed it with the redline mt90 which I've heard good things about for the r154. Does anyone know what this could be?
1) Yes to Redline MT-90. That is the only oil you should use in your R154 transmission.
2) Yes, re-bleed your clutch hydraulic system to be safe. And if there is any issue with the slave or master, replace. But you will know if one of those actually goes out-- your pedal would go to the floor.
3) Is the transmission very easy and smooth to go into gear when the engine is off but very difficult to go into gear when the engine is on?
4) What brand and specific model clutch kit did you get to install into your Soarer?
5) Do you notice grinding in only one or more particular gears or at particular vehicle speeds or do you notice grinding in pretty much every gear no matter what speed you are going?

Yes, the transmission goes into gear nicely when the car is not running. The clutch kit I used was from driftmotion with an OEM pressure plate, clutch disc, and slave cylinder. The flywheel I bought from drift motion was a lightened one. The grind I'm hearing isn't linked to a specific gear it just happens every couple mintues regardless of what gear I'm in. I've noticed that if I let off the gas the grind will go away, and them I can start giving it gas again and the grind will still be gone.
