Since there is only ONE Lexus dealer in Portland, OR they control the prices, when I needed to do 90K service Lexus of Portland wanted $1350 and will not honor my extended warranty where I bought my SC(Toyota dealer) therefore, I went to the local Toyota dealer and got it done for $600 that's includes timing belt.

I did my timing belt myself last month, with the help of a good friend (Certified Acura NSX Tech). My water pump was going bad at 99,000 miles (bearing noise was getting loud), the original timing belt was still in it. I went ahead and replaced the timing belt, water pump, 2 cam seals, 1 crank seal, timing belt idler pulley, timing belt tensioner pulley, serpentine belt, serpentine belt idler pulley, and used Lexus FIPG sealant plus Toyota coolant. Total cost- $750 with my friends labor.

The timing belt was definitely worn on the edges- time to change it.

Another note: My Power Steering Pump went out at 79,000 miles- I paid Lexus to do it- $1,350.00. Expensive!!

Just to let you you know I just had my 60,000 mile service done at a lexus dealership in chicago and the service manager told me that the timing belt didn't need replacing at 60,000 but recomended it done by 100,000. So I went ahead and had the the 60,000 mile service done which consisted of replacing all fluids, gas cap o-ring, air filter, ventaltion valve, along with a injector cleaner and oil additive. As i was driving to chicago my check engine light came on and I'm thinking oh great just my luck now somrthing else is wrong turned out to be just my 02 sensor which was covered by my cpo warranty along with my window regulator in which they put a brand new motor assembly in. I also went ahead and had the plugs replaced all this totaled up to $708.00

I was also wanting them to put in a new thermostat and fuel filter the service manager told me the thermostat didn't need to be relaced at this time but said if you want us to we will put one in for you and that the fuel filter (lets see how did he put it) will last a lifetime and that they don't even have them in stock .

This seemed totally wrong to me as I have always changed my fuel filters every 30,000 miles in all my other vehicles. I bought this car w/ 52,000 milesw on it and it now has 62,000 miles so I'm going to do some checking into this fuel filter change I can't find it anywhere in the scheduled maintenance services provided by lexus.

That is actually Lexus' official line. I was looking into this recently and here are a couple of threads that may interest you:

Being a service manager, i can tell you that a timing belt/water pump job on an SC300 shouldn't be that expensive on the side.

Book time according to the Mitchell mechanical labor guide on a water pump (includes timing belt) is 3.6 hrs. add a couple tenths for any seals and that's right around 4 hrs. seems to me with most mechanical labor rates around $80 per hour, that sets you right at $320 for labor only. $300 labor on that side job is one HIGHLY paid mechanic! Must be proud of himself!

If a job like that came into my shop, it would be priced at $300 labor plus parts, i'd bet it would end up around $500-$550 after parts and tax. I guess many places see the shiny "L" on the bumper and mistake it for a "$".

anyway, that's my .02

Well, I got the car back today and I have to say that the mechanic (who also owns the shop I took the SC to) did a great job. New battery, oil change, timing belt, rotors, caps, spark plugs(denso iridiums) and wires, water pump, compression check, thermostat housing(hair line cracks), power antennae and new bulbs for the gauge cluster. Cost was total of $1500.

I can honestly say I'm very happy with the work and the car feels like new. Might have cost more than having a buddy do it but, I'm more comfortable driving my car knowing everything was done right. The guy used to be a tech at the local Lexus dealer and knows this car inside and out.

I'm putting in my crossdrilled/slotted rotors, new pads and SS brake lines next week. Other than that damn rack and pinion boot, the car will be perfect.

Good luck with your 95. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine, but once again, be prerpared with deep pockets... If ya wanna play, ya gotta pay...... $1,500, ouch......... You really don't want to know how much these parts could have been purcashed for at serveral of the Toyota/Lexus dealer that do discount parts for many CL members.

Bottom line is you're happy and that's all that counts. So post a pic of your SC.....
