Default What to spend $1400 on??

Guys,

I am about to buy a 92 SC 400 in a champagne color. I have approx. $1400 set aside for mods to the car. I would like to get a spoiler and a tint, but apart from that I am not sure. What can I get for $1400 to give me the biggest bang for my buck?? It will be some time before I can afford any other mods - so these will have to do for at least a year.

I was debating wheels ( used 19's) or else headers, exhaust etc. I don't know whether to go for looks or speed. What would you spend $1400 on with a stock SC 400?? IThx guys

There's no way to answer that. it's personal preference. It's been debated many times.

Welcome to CL !

i suggest using that 1400 for a tune up. I've spent over 2 g on my car recently and none of it was for preformance.. Nothing was broken with my car either.. Just restoring a car cost a lot.

Dx3,
I agree with mrshabo, tune-up. New t-belt, water pump, cam and crank seals, both tensioners, cap and rotor, wires, plugs, air/fuel/oil/cabin filters . That's ~$600 in parts ( wholesale price). Check your power steering pump, is it leaking?$200-400 to fix. If so check your alternator also. Fix both if required. New brake pads/rotors? Remember to regrease the pins that's another $150 for pads and $400 for rotors (if required). Flush your tranny, change all your fluids, diff, radiator, oil, brake, power steering. ~$100-150 in parts. Figure double to triple everything if you have to pay for labor also.
Get the car up to spec and in perfect condition before spending money on mods.

Regards

Set your money aside for a raining day. You are going to need it. Something is bound to go out or needs replacing.
Just within a year and a half that I have had by 93, I have had to replace the Raditor, Set of Tires,
Front brakes and rotors, Set of suspension shocks, A/C compressor, Antenna, Driver side power door lock, Rrear view mirror, a couple interior panels, Driverside headlamp, and Rear trunk lift shocks.
I have yet to do any mods that I have planned to do since I got my Lex! (i.e. Body kit, tailight conversion, rear spoiler, that is just sitting in my garage)
Murphys law: Money saved is money spent on something else not planned!

Thx for all the responses guys. I think I will take her in to the shop and get a complete check and see what needs replaced - then put the rest of the money aside as Murphy and I are very close friends!!! Eg - stuff always happens to me!!!

It is soooo damn hard to have self-control when you get a new car!!! You just wanna trick it out until your bank account is empty and your girl has left you!!!

So should I take it to to the Lexus stealer to have it checked or just an import mechanic?? Anyone from Tulsa, OK here have somewhere they can recommend. I have an import mechanic where I brought my Acura but I am not sure if he does Toyota.

Thx guys, peace
