New to CL 1999 SC400 HID or LED?
Hi everyone I drove up the 680 last night in my newly acquired SC400 and even though it has projector headlights, boy are they almost useless. My other car is a 2011 328i with HID's and other car is a 2001 911 Turbo which also had HID's so I'm just used to being able to see the road at night haha. That being said wanting everyone's opinion on what HID kit or LED kit to use without having to do any mods, I want pure plug and play. Thanks in advance!

I have LED fogs and headlights in my SC. The light output is good but not as good as HID’s. The reason I went with LED’s was because I kept having ballasts die on me and I got tired of having to replace them so often. I bought a few sets through some our vendors on here and they all failed. If you go with HID’s spend the extra money to get a good kit.
The LED’s have lasted longer but I have had a few fail too. I always got them pretty cheap on eBay so I have multiple sets in case they blow out.

So far based on what options are currently out there I agree that HID plug and play kits are still brighter than LED plug and play kits. A brand new 2019 car with OEM LED headlights might be a different story.
I've been happy with XenonDepot's 9006 plug and play HID kit for several years now. Very reliable. The 4200K Phillips bulb option is a must. Just make sure each of the ballasts has a good isolated spot for the ground wires.
OG Status has some good lens and lighting options if you want to go beyond a simple PnP HID kit. I believe they now offer a much improved projector lens upgrade for the SC headlights also?
If you just want an affordable but still dramatic improvement over what the stock Halogen bulbs will provide you with a basic solution then a PnP HID kit is definitely the way to go.

I would recommend getting the Philips Crystal Vision 9012 HIR2 bulbs and modify them slightly so they fit the 9006 base. This is a good choice if you want to maintain good beam pattern without having to retrofitting the projectors

I have a DDM kit on my 964 and the BRAND NEW ballast they sent me went out after 1 use. I was pulling out of Lagunitas brewery last week and got pulled over for having a headlight out. Luckily had an off brand spare and the rookie cop let me go. I think I might give the Cougar LED one a shot because it’s pretty cheap. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
