Default Question about door hinge

Hey guys, are you guys' doors open smoothly all the away out or is there a slight kink halfway through. Mine seems to half a very slight drop when it's halfway opened. Also, my doors are very difficult to shut tight unless I slam it with a lot of pressure. Are my hinges shot or is there some adjustment I can make?

hinges are shot. you can rebuild them or get new ones.

there is a article on rebuilding them, do a search for it.

Hmmm... according to intellexual, a new hinge is $400 from deal. Ouch! That's for ONE hinge. I think I'll just continue to use my arm strength. Or get a used one from the junk yard.

Unfortunately most used hinges suffer from the same problems.

Unfortunately, if the hinge sags too much, the door clips the fender. Damage goes to the door and the fender so it is best to replace the door hinge ASAP. You COULD put a shimmy in it and boost it up a bit because of the sage, but the door won't fit perfectly and closing it will be a *beyuch.

You guys could do the following if you do not replace the hinge. Loosen up the fender bolts, and move the fender 1/8-1/4" towards the front bumper. This will give you more clearance until you replace the hinge..

Yeh, but you will notice a giant gap, a fender that isn't flush with the hood, and funny fitting screws on the bottom of the fender.

i'm in the process of restoring my car and will be replacing both of my hinges next week.
i am always getting complaints on the weight of the door and to close the door you have to be a little forceful-also makes a little knock sound from the hinge when fully extended.

Apply white lithium grease to the door hinges, seems to take a few applications to work in well, makes them work nice and smoothly again - mine took a few weeks to really work well.
Put a jack under the open door, release the door hinge mounting bolts a bit, raise the jack, tighten the bolts to get a better alignment and easier door closing.
Report back with results :-)

Ditto on the white lithium grease to the door hinges and the socket type depressions where the stops are. The white lithium grease is kind of messy but if applied through the plastic straws, manageable.
