I have a 1993 SC300 with 167k on it. It runs well but unfortunately the A/C has died. I took it to a shop that specialized in Lexus vehicles only and they ran a diagnostic only to find leaks. I've gone through some of the posts on here and some people say it's a quick way of them making money and blaming it on the compressor. With my car being this old, I think it would be safe to think that it is actually out with this many miles on it.
They gave a quote of $1030.00 for a compressor, dryer & labor. He also said he will back it up for 2 years, 24k. (instead of one year) Is this a good deal or not? Considering the car is old, the warranty sounds like a safe bet.
Also, I've seen compressors for Lexus on ebay. Are those really worth buying? One was for 300 which was rebuilt. I really don't want to spend too much money on a car this old. I thought about buying one off ebay and actually save about 300 dollars minimum. However, I live in Texas and the heat is killer over here so any response or suggestions would be appreciated.

That is a great price compared to the dealer. I remember having my compressor and dryer replaced by Lexus for $1800. Lucky for me it was under warranty, and I wouldn't buy a used or rebuilt compressor on Ebay. Make sure that shop is using new parts, but that is a good warranty. Shop around, but I don't think you'll find a better price.
