I could not find anything after a serach on removing the interior brake light housing in the rear window. How is it removed?

There are 2 clips that hold the front of the grill (closer to the front of car) in. lift up the front lip, its pretty secure and you may lose some fingertips. Once the front is released, the whole unit slides forward. Then lift and unplug.

 

i would suggest using a key or screwdriver to help pry it up, it worked pretty well for me
