another timing belt question...
i got a price of $750 at the toyota dealer for the timing belt and water pump and the tensioner and bearings. (no cam seals) for my 93 sc400 labor only.i bought a aisin kit at amazon.I get 10% off military discount.so the price is about $700 after tax.Is this price in line of what others paid?

i returned the amazon kit and bought the water pump at the toyota dealer.night and day difference between the two in quality.The same with the lexus timing belt.bought a timing belt tensioner at the toyota dealer also.Getting it changed thursday.

+1 I'm with rodeo, I would also do cam seals, if you don't do it at the time of the timing belt, you'll be doing a timing belt job twice later!!!

update:I received my car back 9 days ago.When i dropped it off at the dealer my car ran like a Swiss watch,But when it took it home it was a little noisier then before and with the a/c on it was even noisier.I returned the car and the tech said, its nothing he did.So i drove it home and for a few days i lived with the noise.
Then on one trip to the store. i started it up and the trac and engine light was on and the car was in limp mode,So i returned the car again.the tech didnt get any codes.started the car and the lights are off.Tach said he will trouble shoot at hourly rate,$120 hour.I decline.
i took it home and find the alternator making the noise as best as i cant tell.it gets louder when the a/c is on.So i have a alternator on order.i am thinking the load when a/c is turned on is the problem.i will keep you all updated after i put the new alternator in.Fingers crossed! Ps,When the car is cold the noise is gone after 10 minutes or so it returns.Its a groaning sound.I had the alternator benched checked and it checked fine but they only checked it for maybe 1 minute.

The parts that were changed at the dealer was timing belt and tensioner.Water pump and both buttons (they were cracked) and the thermostat and serpentine belt.I also had both motor mounts changed.

I like the gates, I got the timing belt/ water pump kit. It came with hydraulic tensioner, and seals and gaskets that I needed, plus Gates is a good belt. I had to swap out my 2jz-ge motor because the previous owners didn't maintain it at all. So the cost of the motor swap was cheaper than trying to fix all the problems. I changed out parts on the engine stand, did the timing belt/water pump, cam and crank seals and tranny input shaft seal. Got the motor swapped out within a week. Lot of work but my motor's like new. Cost about $2,000 with a used motor from Japan... 70,000 mile compared to my old at 268,000.

They quoted my dad $750 for timing belt/water pump without the hydraulic tensioner. After doing it though, it really wasn't that bad... just time consuming, but it's never easy with dads cars. Ended up changing cam and crank seals... I always do with timing belt change... oil change(synthetic oil), flush fluids, tranny filter and gasket and flush, new struts all the way around, new tie rods(inner and outer), front brakes, paint all brake calipers, new ignition coils, spark plugs, wires, distributor caps and rotors. Saved dad about $2,500 on labor. I love these SC's.

i paid $1100 labor for the timing belt,water pump and tensioner also the engine mounts.the parts that they added was 2 buttons, thermostat and shop fees and other blown up prices.i spent $350 or so in parts.$1500 to the dealer.i paid $350 for the alternator and changed it myself so a total of $1850.
our total for all those parts was about the same as what you spent. Imagine what the dealer would have charged... probably saved $3-4,000. I had to swap out the engine on my SC300. Those motor mounts cost around $100 each, but they made a big difference. One had completely come apart, but the car had 260,000 miles on it from previous owners that did not maintain it at all. I saved my SC. Now I just need to paint it, which I'm still debating on the color. Maybe I'll make it a candy apple red, I really want a cobalt blue, but since I'm doing it myself, it would be a pain to take out the interior to paint the entire car, and it's stock red now. Plus I wanna throw on a body kit. This is a car that I wanted when I was 22 and they came out. It's really a nice car, with timeless styling. Love that body shape. I hope that some day I'll end up with an LFA. Glad your SC is running well again.
