I heard the darnedest thing tonight
I was sitting out in the driveway this evening, doing some wiring harness work, when a neighborhood kid and two friends walked by, likely all middle school aged. I don't think they would have seen me at the angle I was positioned.
As they pass in front of my house, one of the kids says, "three SC400's...those are beautiful cars...swap in a 2JZ and you've..." Then they were out of earshot.
I'll forgive him for not realizing that one of the three is a SC300.

The apparent popularity may be the result of the SC400 1992-1977 outsold the SC300 by a factor of 2. It also outsold the SC300 with standard shift transmission by a factor of 10 to 1. Consequently you can expect the SC300 to be more rarely seen the the SC400. I drove my 1992 SC400 for 20 years and never heard a mention of whether it had a 6 cylinder engine or standard transmission. It was a luxury car and everyone knew it.

My car is usually parked up front my younger brother has been telling me that all his friends are asking him if they can drive it. Most of them dont know what it is but its nice that they are still interested. These cars dont really get the recogintion they deserve. My friend was driving with me when i put the pedal to the floor and his first reaction was "i didnt know an old lexus could do that".

These kids as you say may be the ones to finally make our cars worth something and get them into the Supra category. It does take time with some cars and glad to know that the even know what they are. There is hope!

I've gotten this a few times about my sc400 too, which is annoying because it's basically got no mufflers and sounds like a NASCAR. Once they hear it's the v8 they either loose interest or ask if I'm going to swap it soon.
