Default Question about B Pillars

Can someone with first hand knowledge and experience confirm that the exterior B Pillar trim is removable?

I was under the impression that these were fixed to the door structure. We painted these on my car when I first got it about 10 years ago, it was one of the first things we did because one of them had a scratch but we masked everything without taking them off.

Now I randomly came across this listing on eBay , item #282356893804

It states the B pillars are off a 1992 SC400 and it looks like it's just held on by double sided tape, thus being easily removable.

Hoping someone who has had their car repainted correctly has more info on this. Thank you.

Its one whole thing along with the chrome window trim. It is removable from the door tho, but not like that in the photos.

I was going to say the same thing until I looked at photos of my car from back when I had the trim stripped down and vinyl wrapped.

It might be possible to pry it off, but its a huge gamble. Removing the entire window trim and painting it might be the safest option.

Here is a picture after having the chrome blacked out. The "faux" carbon fiber wrap was applied by the body shop when I had the car repainted a few years back; I was skeptical at first but the wrap has a slight texture which hides finger prints pretty well and has remained in good shape......

Not sure about painting these.....

I removed the entire piece in my blue SC a few years ago to repaint it, I'm pretty sure it was one whole piece with the window trim and isn't separable.

I snapped a pic today of my spare set, since I was digging through the shed for something else.

As you can see, the back side is a solid piece of metal. I believe the visible side is part of that. It's the same chrome looking metal under the black trim, like Blkexcoupe posted, so it seems unlikely it could be separated and have black plastic on the back like in the first post.

i should add that when you remove the chrome trim around the window, you will most likely break the plastic tabs that lock it into the door frame. I was extra careful and still cracked them

Thanks for the replies guys. So the question is, how the hell did they take them off in that eBay listing?

If you look at the pieces they have what's left of adhesive backing on them so I would bet that the part that is all one piece is a metal frame that the trim piece attaches to.

I'm guessing they had a non-original, stick-on trim piece.

Those trim pieces are glued to the door with double sided Japanese Jdm type R Lexus brand tape, I took 2 of those from junk yard. You have to be very careful prying/pulling those off, if you use a screw driver you'll most likely damage it if you don't have layers of tape on it. it was last summer it was easy because it was preheated for me

I felt the exact same way since this thread started.

Maybe gerrb can experiment on this. Doesn't he have like 25 SCs in his garage? I know he has a few of them as strictly parts cars.
