Drifting anyone!
Anyone here beside Emerald get out to a track or parking lot and practice drifting? I have been learning with some bro's and am having a blast- heres a pic to inspire!- lol
I have just come over from the 240sx world, where the drifting shiat is getting out of hand. Lotsa ricers are getting rid of the hondas and neons and sourcing a 240sx to make a JDM mAd tYTe yO sr powered drift car. Result= extreme hike in SR prices, the wrecking of 1000's of 240s a day (sarcasm), and a wealth of ignorance being spread about. I went from a '90 S13 hatch (considerable mods...like the 3 cars behind the SC in the pic) to a '93 5 speed Sc300. Trying to drift a SC w/ an open diff is a waste of time and money. My old s13 would kick it out amazingly well with the stock diff and stock suspension. When i lowered it, put in an ACT, and installed a VLSD, it was AWESOME (we are talking KA24 SOHC power here...no SR or anything). I love my sc and would much rather have it than the 240, but it just cant drift very well. When i try to induce the oversteer situation in the SC, the back end comes out for a second and BOOM...1 tire-fire and everything is over. I guess a little boost in power, a hardcore clutch, a little lowering (w/ some negative camber) and a nice mechanical or clutch type LSD would make a world of difference...maybe a little weight reduction too. I would love to find out
. It would be nice to have it sliding like the S13, i just know how bad it tears the car up. I have seen some bad soarers doing some mountain drifting in a couple option videos i have seen. From my experience, heres some pointers...
1. Drifting is expensive...you break a lot of stuff i.e. tie rods, bumpers, fenders, etc...
2. 80 % of people that say they drift are....power sliding(me included most of the time lol)
3. When practicing, rain is your friend.
4. Get a beater to drift in.
5. Do it on STEEL WHEELS, dont get some nice *** jdm wheels to destroy when you mess up.
6. You will mess up
7. Practice makes you better...not the mods done to the car. The mods may make it easier.
8. Learn to grip first; then drift.
9. Dont do it on public roads...
I am by no means some D1 grand prix driver, i have just seen, experienced, and read these things time and time again while i had my 240...oh yeah its for sale too
Drifting is really fun...check around on www.freshalloy.com and www.club4ag.com to find some upcoming events!

It is so hard to drift these cars. I had an MKIII Supra before the lexus and if I gunned it in first around a corner my whole back end would whip out. On the lexus it just goes straight. I was wondering if an aftermarket 1JZ Soarer LSD would work on an SC300.
probably would...hard part would be finding it. I'm actually gonna talk to the guys that i got JDM parts for the S13 from to see if there is anyway they can get their hands on some (differentials). Just gotta make sure the axels and halfshafts are the same bolt patterns, lengths, etc...
