I bouhg tmy SC with 49K miles on the clock... I paid 12,900 + fees from the dealer, and they even said in about 2-3 years I could just sell it and get about the same amount of money I paid for it because the miles will still be pretty damned low. To be honest I dont think I will sell it... I cant think of any car I want to move up to.... Perhaps a 98-00 SC400....?

15,000 gallons
X 6.7 pounds/gallon (large aircraft fuel loads are measured in pounds, not gallons)
=100,500 pounds, which is a typical amount of fuel used for one flight.
Kind of mind blowing that this 11 year old car with 360k uses as much gas as a jet does in 8 hours.
Crazy, thats frikkin mind boggling... don't you think instead of cracking down on car companies and the govt. constantly *****ing about fuel economy, (which sounds like this to me "Oh fuel economy, ow my vagina hurts!!") they should start cracking down on aircraft companies to make there planes burn less in one flight than a car does over the course of 360,000 miles? The plane doesnt even do 100th the distance and it burns more fuel!!!

Another thing... I know the TF33 engines used on the E-3, C-141, RC-135, etc. were all pretty much made in the mid to late 60's. Aircraft engines have come a long way since then- not only in fuel efficiency, but also in noise reduction.

Our cars aren't bad, but consider the Ford Excursion and the Hummer H2 which both make less than 9mpg when they are brand new! That is a pretty sh!tty use of a commodity like gasoline, IMO. Especially when you consider that the H2 Hummer weighs almost 8000 pounds and barely has more interior space than my Lexus coupe!

When I bought a lexus SC400, I basically just agreed with myself and accepted that fuel costs would be high to operate. And yknow what? its worth it. When I foud out the full ecu upgrade would decrease my fuel economy, I accepted that and am still getting it. And SUVs really do use too much gas... hummers are more tools of aggression than they are practical vehicles... I suppose if I got an SUV it would have to be an LX470.. and those arent good on gas either....

what were you driving before? a geo metro? My 400 get's amazing gas mileage, especially considering it's weight and 260 HP v-8.
I have a celebrity that I use only for winters now, it has a small 6 and gets about 25-30 mpg. When Im at school throughout the weeks ((schools almost out) I drove my moms civc which gets something like 32 or so mpg... the SC gets like 18 city and 24 highway, its not good at all. That thing's tank takes about 30 bucks to fill... and you can watch the indicator go down as your driving. SCs ironically get the best gas mileage around 90-100 mph because it takes very little effort to keep it going that fast.
Of all the cars in my family, this is without a doubt the best one, but also uses the most gas, but as I said before, I can accept that..... If you want a fast, powerful, classy car.... you must compromise somewhere.
And also, I'm a fairly conservative driver, I almost never max it out, and I only bother switchign accleration to "pwr" once in a great while. Most of my acceleration is only 1/2 throttle.

I get -okay- mileage in my 5speed. I just noticed it has dropped about 2-3 mpg since the weather turned warm though. Think it could be from the less dense air? Haven't really used the a/c much yet.

Jay my other driver is a newer model 4wd explorer... 4.0 v-6 wanna talk bad gas mileage? the sc gets DOUBLE. i'm getting right at 20/26 in mine and i only run premium in it. I hear ya on the others though, they get a little bit better. I am just sitting here thinking my 400 get's better gas mileage than anything i have including my 1997 4cyl ranger. 18/23 mpg.
