hiya. have a used 98 SC300 that is in great shape. one thing that bothers me is how hard it is to hear the BEEP when locking / unlocking the doors. where would that bad boy be located? and would a new one be louder or are they quiet by design? TIA!!

 

I am pretty sure they are quiet by design because I had parked next to a much newer Toyota camry and it had the exact same beep as my 00' SC300, my Sequoia had the same beep as well. I usually look at the headlights now to know if it locked or not. I know on 4runners you can raise or lower the volume of the beep though, not too sure if you can on other cars like ours.

I believe it is behind the driver fender.

Not sure how good your hearing is, but I can hear mine from 20ft away. Slightly further if you're standing on the driver's side.
