Hello Club Lexus i have a problem with my 1993 sc300, so sometimes when driving my car reaches 6k rpm almost in redline and then the check engine light appears but goes away so i went to go check the code to see if it saved anything and i got a code 12 RPM signal fault i have heard many things like the code is a "throw away code" or i need to change the distributor or something any help would be great

P.S its a automatic and this happens once every blue moon but is annoying

 

Could be a sign of a misfire; would make sense, since if a miss is going to happen, it would happen at high rpm.

If you are overdue for a tune up, you should probably do that.

Distributor cap and rotor, plugs, wires.

Then go from there. I wouldn't be surprised if you never have this problem again.
