Hello all!!

I am having a sway-wobble problem. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this?
This is my 2nd SC, i have done LOTS of work to both of them. That said i can't seem to find the problem.

What i have done so far…
New shocks.
New FT control arm bushings.
All tires are 1 year old and i just had them balanced.
Sway links are good front and back.

If i am on the highway[ just about any speed] the car will want to wander around especially in a long right curve.It does not seem to do it in a left! It is tight but "floats" when going straight but not bad.

I have put it up in the air and all of the rear bushings seem to be ok, they are not rotten. They do give a bit of play if i put a bar on them.

Does anyone have a list of the rear mounting bushings?

Are you sure it's not the front? Check/replace your rack bushings and tighten that main bolt in the rack like crazy. Check Prothane, Jegs or Figs for replacements. Both fixes have worked for me in the past.

 

If the bushings aren't gone, then the ball joints probably are. I've replaced nearly all arms with ball joints to alleviate sway and wander.

I will check them next time i have it on the rack. It really doesn't feel like it is the front, it feels like the rear end is sliding out!! The wheel does move but i can't tell if is a reaction or the cause…LOL

I will look up the bushings.

I did the front bushings. The ball joints feel good, not sloppy or loose.

I don't know if this would cause your problem I did have a similar problem and it turned out to be the bolts missing in the half axle to the diff.
I would feel movement when tramping the car out of in my case a left hand corner, I would have to correct the steering, it felt strange and I thought it was my rear end rubbers. I haven't noticed the problem since I put bolts back in!
I have a vid when the axle popped from the diff and then re-seated! Here's a pic of the missing bolts as I found it.

Check your wheel bearings out back. If you jack up the car and have the e-brake released and the car in neutral and out of gear, pull on the wheel on opposite sides and see if you have any play. It could be your rear wheel bearings have gone bad.

I would say wheel bearings is definitely possible. Most of the steering problems and floaty-ness arises in the front though. Steering rack bushings and UCA are the most culprit. Rear is usually fine unless like the guy said above that one of your axles is messed up. You have to get the car in the air and expect all your components. Also check the rear traction bars sometimes they get banged up and bent especially if you are lowered.
