Finally, the "moon and stars" aligned and will be doing the front brake upgrade to LS400 calipers. Have not gotten all the parts as yet and have to get the rebuilt calipers painted but at least the process has started....
I have in hand the decals!!!! Not sure which ones will be used.....
Will update this thread with progress and final results in a couple of weeks!!!!!!!
I dropped them at the paint shop today. The finish is a lot rougher then a picture can show and will take some prep work but I have faith in them. While I was there he showed some Ferrari calipers he just finished (on the car itself) painting high gloss white.
As for the color I am going with, I was all over the place and then wanted to go with a blue and then went all over the blue gamut trying to decide which blue to standout from the 6M3.
Then it hit me like a lighting bolt..... I really am in awe of the RSP cars and decided to have the calipers done in Royal Sapphire Pearl - 8L5. Will likely have the white decal but I provided all of them to the shop and I trust them to go with the best combination. Be about a week or so to get them back (maybe longer since their shop is really busy...).
The shop that will be doing the upgrade acquired them from one of their suppliers. These are not from a junk yard but are re-manufactured from cores and rebuilt. I can ask where they got them.
Talked to the body shop doing the painting and they are supposed to be ready on Thursday, 11/5. I will post the pics of the results. They went with the gray/silver decals.
They look exactly like the A1 Cardone reman's that you can get lots of places. I bought mine through AutoZone and had to reorder three sets before finding some in decent shape. The guys at the store were horrified when they saw how bad the ones were I brought back. (Ship to Home, they never had them in store.) Huge divets in the aluminum, stripped out and cross-threaded screws, mis-aligned / bent pad brackets...
My guess is, everyone's getting the reman's from a central source and they're all coming from junkyards or similar, but some retailers might pay more for higher priority and better quality, like with fresh produce.
I had originally planned on painting the rear calipers to match, but they're so small and recessed, I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. They pretty much disappear into the darkness.
I picked up a set of SS brake lines after doing the LS caliper upgrade... Still waiting to put those on.
