Default 96 sc400 vvti or no

I've been looking for an answer all over and keep getting mixed opinions I have a 96 sc400 with the 1uzfe engine my engine cover says vvti but the opinions I've been seeing says that vvti came out in 97 so my question is. Is a 96 sc400 1uzfe a vvti engine or non vvti? Thanks for any help

98's and up got VVTi.

97 was the first year of face lift, but had not gone VVTi yet.

It could have been a engine swap? Just check the model/year/VIN # on the Sc400.

That does not look like a VVTi motor to me. I'm pretty certain the VVTi motor has the intake entering through the front of the motor, not the side.

Looks just like the engine in my 96. V V T I intakes through the front of Plenum. 96 does have a early & late version but it only effects the serpentine belt size & routing.

You can check the vin on the engine it's down under by the alternator on the side of the block. Hard to see, especially if it's dirty you might not see it at all.
