Lamp failure sensor keeps blowing
Hey guys,
I've got a 1993 sc300 manual with 250,000 miles on it, and still runs like a beast. a couple weeks ago, a neighbor of mine backed into my car and totally jacked up the passenger side taillight and bumper. Well after buying a new taillight and pulling the metal under the bumper out with a winch to make the taillight fit again, I've been having problems with my night time running lights coming on. At first, the driver side light with the double filament would need a good bump of the fist to turn back on, but after a couple nights, decided it was finally time to replace it. After replacing that, all of the lights that come on when you set to automatic wouldn't come on, but the brake lights would light up when I pressed the brake pedal. Did some research and found the lamp failure sensor, took it apart and found that a couple spots were burnt. So, I got a new one off of ebay and plugged it in, lights and everything went back to normal, but luckily noticed that the new sensor started smoking and got it unplugged in time to do any permanent damage or set my car on fire. It turns out that the new sensor was burning in the same spot that the old one was and I can't find any diagrams to give me info on what seems to be shorting out. I've checked the wires as best as i could, and can't imagine it being a fuse problem but then again, may be.. Any ideas as to what exactly is going on here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
