^^^Ohh believe me I know what you mean. I had a 1989 Supra for a while and I couldn't do anything in the engine bay without breaking old plastic pieces every time. AZ summers kill cars here.

Still thinking about it, but indeed this car will need some TLC. I just love the fact that it is a 97 5 speed.......I wish I wasn't a car guy sometimes

Oxford, yeah it's a rare find, good color combo. If I has assloads of money and that car had all vin stickers in place then I would have already bought it and began restoration. But it's definitely going to need a few thousand into it in just maintenance items, not including a lot of other items that are beyond life expectancy.

Come to think of it, I didn't check the vin stickers on the body panels when I test drove it

I am a little too spoiled with my current XJ cherokee, this thing is a freaking tank. Super reliable, and will seriously go anywhere. Longest vehicle I've owned to date at a little over a year. I haven't really thrown money at it besides routine maintenance either so I've been loving that (compared to my last car built evo=always broke).

Found another clean SC locally.

-Red
-95
-Auto
-123K miles
-Bone stock
-Seller seems like he is getting impatient emailed "Hurry since my wife and I are trying to get a new car and we might trade this in"
-Checked the vin, has been an AZ car its whole life, no accidents
-Going to go see it Thursday, guy is asking $6400 but highest I will go is $5500, even so it seems a little high but it does appear to be in excellent condition

The hunt for a clean SC/IS continues................Keep you all posted

I have to wonder what the material is on the back of those covers, if it's rough or smooth. If it's rough it will wear down the leather when getting in and out over time. Or is the person hiding torn leather, or maybe they put them on there because it gets so damn hot in AZ that when you sit on leather usually in May through Sept you burn your ****. Who knows.

One persons clean is another persons dirty. I've seen many cars listed as "super clean" and then you click on the ad and see the pics and the person hasn't even bothered to wash and vacuum the car, the engine bay looks like it has never been washed, and all original vacuum lines are present, etc.
I will check it out, I am pretty picky when it comes to cars so I will certainly post back the results.

if you have that much to spend...buy the **** out of it.

I believe that guy is on the board as well. IIRC, hes someone who did an OEM restoration, just started buying and replacing EVERY SINGLE THING he wasnt happy with. It's super fantastic. I'll see if I can find the thread.

As for the 97, I was interested in it too but there seems like there is something else going on.

Since youre here in AZ, If i were you, I'd buy the CL 98 SC300 with black interior, buy the OEM 5 speed listed for sale that Joel used to own (he used to frequent club lexus too). Swap the interiors, then sell the 98.

**** my car is for sale too, but its the haggard 1997 for sale with maximum failure. I wouldnt ever suggest it to a real enthusiast though, it'll never be nursed back to its original condition.

I kind of want to stay with a 95 or older in case I want to go crazy later on (if swapped it would pass AZ OBD 1 testing)

That resto threat is crazy! I can only imagine the money dropped on that SC
