If the past owner didn't do it, no big deal, just go to Sewell and buy new brackets or ask around for some.
if you have an aftermarket stereo this is 100% the problem. The metra kit eliminates 2 mounting points in the rear that keep the center console from shifting around.

I used a wood shim in between the center console and the dash to keep it from making noise.

Honda shin-etsu grease is great for this.

I have the Metra kit for my double-din stereo (previous owner.) Mine doesn't squeak right now, but I had been toying with the idea of screwing a flat bracket for a phone holder in to the pocket for the butterfly cup holder. The instability of the center console has kept me from seriously looking in to doing it. Sounds like I was right to be wary of putting more strain on the center console if I'm also missing mount points.

It really depends on your suspension. My car is on stiff coilovers, so it made a lot of noise before I put in the wood shim. Back when I was still on stock suspension it was barely noticeable.

Interesting to see this thread pop back up again.
My squeak was caused by a slightly broken Metra kit from the previous owner.
When I made an additional ground for the Digital Climate control I replaced the old metra kit with a new non broken one and the squeak went away.

This didn't gain any traction at the time, but it might help people looking for a non-squeaky Single DIN alternative to the Metra kits:

It's rock solid, anchored directly to the factory rails.

Ha that's funny, I used 1" felt strips on the top of mine and fixed the issue too. I guess there's a thread for everything.

Well....Here's another option I tried with good results. I plan on taking the console apart at some point, but the creaking was driving me nuts. I ended up taking small pieces of cut up bicycle inner tube and folding/rolling them and tucking them into the gaps. It helped to gently pull the gap open slightly and slide the rubber inside.

I left the corners poking out to see how it would work and then tucked them in out of sight the next day. Now I notice the creaking from the rear deck/c-pillars so to me that is progress.

i got a small rubber hose cut it in half and fit it into the small gap between the top of the console itself.
