I recently bought a black dashboard and I have a tan one in my SC currently. My question, after attempting to search for the answer, is there a difference between dashboards? Its pre 97 if that helps and correct me if I'm wrong but if the chassis code has a '30' then it doesn't have a passenger airbag whereas the '31' does? This might sound dumb but please clear up the air for me and potentially others in the future.

 

Um not sure if this solves your question but I guess one has slot for passenger airbag and one doesn't

Mine is a 95 and mine has the airbag if that clears up anything, based on what I'm finding, the 92 doesn't have the airbag? Idk about the other years

 

Early cars had no passenger airbag. I don't remember what year they started putting them in.

 

92 was the only year that didn't have airbags on the passenger side.

 

92 had no airbag on the passenger side.
93-~96 had the airbag/woodgrain combo
97-00 If I recall, had a solo airbag in the dash, the woodgrain was a separate entity.

 

I've swapped the dashes between 92 and up to 96 and they do swap, but the brackets are different behind the airbag and you have to do some finagling to make it fit on the hangers on that side coming out of the dash.

As said 92 was the only year without the bag.

 

Ok that tells me alot actually. Is there any distinct observations that the dash came from a 92 with no airbags? Like a side by side comparison of the two? because it did not come with the dash airbag. The reason I ask is to for-warn my self just in case I can't line up the airbag or something in that nature.

 

Uh... Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, the super obvious void where the airbag would be should be a dead giveaway.

 

On the 92, there is NO spot for a passenger airbag. All other years have some sort of cutout in the dash on the passenger side for it to slide it.
