rebuilding the charcoal canister
Sorry guys I never have much luck searching the forum. I do remember a day on rebuilding your charcoal canister. Has anyone done this or have the link.
Never mind. Bought a new OEM one for $45 on eBay. Not worth messing with for that price

for future reference, I actually construct charcoal canisters for various car companies.
and no, they are non rebuildible. they get hot plate welded together. to get to the charcoal on the inside which is what would need to get replaced, you would have to open up that weld. but by doing so you ruin the weld seam. you could try to melt the plastic lip and apply pressure to try to weld it back together, but it wont work since you wont be able to apply even pressure and the lip will no longer be straight. that would cause leaks and do nothing for gas smell.
it was/is the right decision to replace the part.

I used a 4" PVC pipe and two end caps to make one for my rx7 as it never came with one (1978 display car) to pass inspection. I just filled it with active carbon. Worked well enough to pass inspection. My state also made me install a catalytic converter even tho it also didn't come with one (it had a thermal reactor instead but it wasn't good enough to pass)
Good call on new one, the tent too pricey anyway
