Question Measurement to see if Work VS-ZF will clear LS BBK?

Hi,
I have Work VS-ZF wheels. The sticker is missing on the front but the rear says WORK VS-ZF "18x9.5JJ P.C.D 114.3 offset +45". I have a 38mm spacer back there.

I don't know specs on front but I guess I must measure from thickest part of stock brake to the wheel face. How much space do i need to clear my LS400 BBK?
What size spacer should I have on hand just in case it does not fit (if one could guess such a thing)?

Any tips on getting this measurement right?

Thanks!

If you have the wheels, why not just put them on and know for sure?

Thanks A lot !!!

Two thoughts ...

1. A lot of the BBK threads where LS400 calipers are being used are there to read and one mentioned you need 1.75 inches from the front of the rotor to the wheel.... If you don't have at least that much you may be looking at shaving the caliper or using spacers.

2. If your wheels are a "newer" model and still being sold, a lot of the online retailers have "fitment" software where you put your car/year and it comes back and tells you if it will fit your car. If one of these sites still supports your wheels, "lie" and tell the software you have an LS400 to see if it will pass (I did this for my wheels and the software said the wheels fit an LS400).

Ultimately you have to try it in any case and find out.... one way or another.... Keep us posted how it goes...

Thanks Duck, that's the measurement I needed.

My Works are from 2000. Surely not "newer", more like "vintage". Thanks though, that's good to know for the future.

I will surely report back! Thanks!

Question

OK,
I got a couple bad piks of the clearance today. From what I read, the important measurement is the one on the spoke as thick part of the caliper does not extend down to the hub area but I got that one as well. I also read that the rotor is 3/8th further back when you switch to the LS400 rotor. Please tell me if any of this is wrong.

Thank you!

PS: I just remembered, the guy I got these from purchased them for his Supra track car. That is a good sign.

You need 2 1/2" clearance with the stock rotor. This will JUST clear with the LS400 brakes, depending on the shape of the spokes on the wheel. I measured 2 1/2" with the GS350 wheels on mine and the final clearance is between 1/8" to 1/4" at various points around the caliper.

Yes, the LS rotor sits 3/8" further back (thicker hat) than the stock. The actual clearance is 2 7/8" required compared to the LS400 rotor.

Remember, measure at the caliper diameter, not the inside of the hat. If the spokes curve out the clearance will increase near the caliper. Hard to tell if yours will clear as you measured at the wrong location.

This picture is one someone posted from a much earlier thread. I measured my clearance at the center of the caliper diameter, the widest point on the LS400 calipers.

Thanks Gerry!
I just ordered 12mm spacers and extended studs in case it does not clear. It looks like I may be just shy of clearing.

Thanks again,
SG
