conforming soarer
Why why why does it cost soooooo much [$15.000] to conform a lexus soarer,my uzz31 4litre ltd,in the us.
After all this is a world car?.Infact the car was designed in california, not to menton it's identical to the sc400.The powers that be r determind i send it back to the uk!
they ask questions i can't answer,[specs]eg.what is the impact
resitance of the bumpers,av not a clue? Toyota japan wont play
ball, and say it's propriotory? do u really think they would put a
cheaper/nastier bumper on a lexus?
why dont we have a campaign to save the soarer, and start getting them imported here.Believe you me these cars feel and
handle differently to any sc400/300.
Does anybody have the definitive answer? or r u just keepin stumped! those of u outhere, know who i mean!

BAZ, I'm sorry to see you are still catching hell trying keep that Soarer stateside. From all the reading I did on the subject a few weeks back, there is no cheap easy way to do it. We have legions of bureaucrats whose only mission in life is to make sure there is no cheap & easy way to import high performance automobiles. For the few of us who are true auto enthusiasts, that just plain sucks.
I guess that 15K price for converting is from that registered importer in our area. Did he tell you how long you would have to wait if you went that route??

I'll admit, it's not just around the corner, but it's just a few hours away.
I found this on the link listed below. It's some kind of exception code for cars not made for the north American market.
Manufacturer: Lexus
VSP : 225
Model: SC300, SC400
Year: 1991 - 1996
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...LIG012703.html
VSP" eligibility numbers are assigned to vehicles that are decided to be eligible under 49 U.S.C. § 30141(a)(1)(A), based on a petition from a manufacturer or registered importer which establishes that a substantially similar U.S.-certified vehicle exists.
From what I have seen they did not put this on your HS-7 form. I wonder if that would make a difference??
I also noticed on the new HS-7 form found online that you can request in writing special permission to keep the car here up to 5 years. As Dimcorner said, there are always loopholes. It sounds like he knows more about it than I do. Might want to PM him about it.
