I love searching around these forums, but I am lost in a lot of the threads that get technical...Has anyone ever created a technical FAQ? I know that there is a place in the information section to learn about this stuff...but it's been under construction for awhile...
I really want to start learning this stuff so I can participate more in the community and start working with my Lex. I was a guru when it came to offroad motorcycles...but working on them posed significantly less risk of mistakes
All of those links are great...and they tackle a lot of specific problems but I still can't find some basic stuff (that isn't basic to me)
For example...I have thinking of modifying my intake...what is a MAF adapter? What does it do? If I put an aftermarket intake on, will the ECU (still don't know what that stands for) need to be reprogrammed?
MAF = mass air flow meter. The adaptor is just a metallic interfacing plate that allows you to attach those aftermarket conical filters to your intake runner. On the pre-96 models I believe they were VAF meters (volume air flow). VAFs are no different than MAFs as far as your ability to attach the adaptor plate, but the measurement circuitry is slightly improved on the MAF.
ECU = electronic control unit. This is just a simple computer. There are dozens of them on your car used to control different things (engine, tranny, air intake, seat memory, power steering, fuel intake, etc)
I guess I could add this info to my FAQ page, but before I do can someone verify that it is all accurate? Thanks!
