Default How much is a valve adjustment for sc400

Hey guys I have a 92 sc400 and I hear ticking noises in my valve cover and I was just wondering how much it would cost for adjusting them and if possible to do it yourself. It has 127000 miles on it.

Dealer in AZ wanted $1200 plus parts so likely another $400. My '94 SC400 has 235K miles on it and it's in great shape but $1600 was too much given that's about half the value of the car. I decided to do it myself one side at a time and it worked out well. The shop manual is great. Only difference is I chose to remove the camshafts instead of doing the method in the manual partly because the shop forman at the dealership said that's what they do when multiple valves need to be done. Good luck and although I know I'm a bit slow compared to pro's doing the work, it took a good part of the weekend per engine bank.

That ticking is probably your injectors firing. I highly doubt you need a valve adjustment.

DIY will cost you as much as the feeler gauges ($20) and time. but its very easy. if you dont already have the FSM, go get one download it from the web.
