Valve ticking?

Default Valve ticking?

I just bought a 92 SC 400. It has 135K on it. There is a ticking on the upper end. Sounds like a valve to me but when I asked the guy I bought it from he said he had it checked out and it was the fuel injection. My buddy works at Cadillac and he asked around and found that some component of the EGR system maybe making the sound. The noise follows the rate of the engine RPM which leads me to believe it is a lifter. I guess I am wondering is this a common issue or not. Are the 2 special tools the maintenance manual calls for readily available for me to buy or do the do it yourselfers use something else. Is the valve clearance tricky to do or it fairly straight foward. Thanks for your help.

Suspect also the valve guides, the sleeves the valves ride in. When worn the valve rocks as it seats when it closes.

i have the same problem with my sc400 its clocking 220 on the dash so im guessing its the valvetrain

If its jsut a slight ticking, its the Fuel Injectors going off

I have some ticking on mine too at times. I'm almost at 200K and I read from somewhere that suggests that you get your valves adjusted around that time. Any ideas on how much to get it done ? Thanks...

Default same problem on my 92' sc400 w/ 140k miles

i am looking into it, but my educated guess comes to the valve walls or clearance, but not sure if i solve the problem i'll inform yall

Default more possible lifter noise

I also have been having some lifter (I think) noise. About 2 months ago I had to have the ignition replaced after it locked up. 4 bills later I went to pick it up and the engine was makeing noise like it was going to blow. The "helpfull" salesman said "It didn't always sound like that? Give it gas maybe it will go away". So I did and after about 2-3 minutes the lifter noises went away. I assume this is becasue the computer was reset for the new ignition and the engine had to re-adjust itself to remove the knocking. So I figured no big deal, until this morning. It did it again. After about 5 minutes the lifter noise slowing started to go way and now it is running fine again. Is this a common problem, or should I start looking at the lifters, knock sensor, or timeing belt? The car has about 95K on it.
