Default Why is SC3 cost more than SC4

I have been looking for a SC for a while now. I noticed comparing the same year, the SC300 would cost about 20% more than SC400.

I really wonder why is that.

is it all the SC3's?....or just the 5spd's?

the 5spd's cost a bit more just due to the rarity.....but if the prices you are talking about are just in general, then i have no idea

Are you sure? I've been searching for a SC3 myself and checking out the SC4s along the way and almost every time the SC4s seem more expensive. I've yet to see a manual SC3 tho .

I am not sure about the rest of the country, but in California the SC3 5 speed is the highest price, next come the SC3, than SC4.

Maybe the price dif in california is due to the fact that more ppl know over there about the turbo/power potential of the sc300, which would also involve cheaper and faster availabilty for the parts necessary for the conversion, more shops willing to work on it after the conversion for a good price etc.. over here the sc is still cheaper than the 400

In San Francisco Bay Area, the price of SC400 is still higher than SC300. The price difference is about a model year. i.e. 2000 SC 300 = 1999 SC400.

Post Not seen a SC4 cost more than a SC3

In the Central Valley, the SC400s are a least $2K more than the SC300 in comparision. I have not yet seen a SC3 worth more than a SC4, even for the SC300 potential turbo upgrade.
It's the power of the SC400 V8 and it's standard upgrades that makes it worth more than the standard 300.

I've read quite a few posts where peeps say the MT 300 is more expensive than the AT because of it's rarity. The guy I brought the MT from had the car in his lot with a huge photo ad in the paper for 8 months, and no buyers. He even said that no one's interested in a Lexus with MT. He sold it to me for $100 less than what he paid for it so he can get it off his lot. He showed me his purchase receipt with his price of purchase.

So honestly, I think the MT's are great values and definitely worth buying if you can come across one.

But in general, the 4's are pricier than the 3's. It also seems there are more 4's available around here than 3's.

I am looking for a Sc400 and they seem to be at least 20% more than the 300 with same options. Also there are much more 300's then 400's in my area. I have even thought about getting a 300 because of this but am not sure about the smaller motor and I don't want to do a swap.

Like someone else said I think it has to do with the performance potential. All of the SC3's around here cost more that the 4's

I think it has to do with the market, availability, and individual needs. In the end, a product is only worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay for it...

Theres a HUGE difference in prices between the cars in favor of the 400. On ebay for example, for an SC300 to be worth as much as a 400, I notice it has to be about 5 years newer and roughly 50,000 miles fewer on the odometer. Ive seen plenty of newer 400s go for well over 20 grand, but I dont recall seeing a 300 ever go that high.

I often wonder why they discontinues the 5 spd in the 300 for 98, upgraded the auto 400s 4 spd to a 5 spd, and left the 4 spd in the 300 from 98-00. Doesnt make much sense.

The price difference is only if you can find one. The 300s in CA are very difficult to find on the road.

Just thinking out aloud!....wonder if the jdm 2.5 tt & the 4ltr ltd soarer's were available, what would people be prepaired to pay for them? being an elite specialist market, as these are even rarer!!
