so i have been playing around with the car for a few days and with a lot of help from this forum i have come to the conclusion that it must be the fuel pump ecu

I do NOT want to do the 12v mod

where can i get a decent price on a refurbished or new fuel ecu?

Actually, I do see rebuilt ECU's on eBay sometimes. They're usually priced around $100 or so. Spend half that to get one with a warranty but used.
And I reccomend doing the 12v mod if you're not sure what is causing a problem. If you don't, you'll never know if that was the case or not.
