How to remove stuck exhaust manifold nut

hey guys, trying to fix my leaky manifold issue and removing the rearmost exhaust nut the whole stud came with it and the nut is stuck on there.

Anybody know some smart ways to get this bad boy off?

try to double up the nuts on the other end and lock them together.

Buy new ones or you can try to use WD40 and/or torch.

PB blaster, liquid wrench, penetrating oil, and heat, or a combo of all 4 and that should loosen them up.

a new stud - they're super cheap and the dealer probably has a few of them on the shelf

Yeah, couldnt get it off and now the rear cylinder leaks like all hell. Dealer ordered me up some but wont be here until tommorow.

that's normal something they do come off with the studs , no big deal.

Or if you really want to remove the stud from the nut , you have to use either a 7/8mm 6 point socket it fits right on the stud and break the nut loose.

^^ yeah, I tried but that sucker wasnt coming off. Even tried to re install and tighten it down but no luck.

Hopefully when they get here i can just get away with installing the new stud cause removing that manifold gasket is an extreme pain in the ***,

Just get the new one, super cheap and the old one's already out

call me lazy but I would just stick that bad boy back in and tighten it down, good to go
Or yeah a new stud and nut always works as well.

atf fluid and acteone can also loosen up rusty parts overnight if you have that kind of time.

+1 ^^, I've totally just threaded a stud or two back in after I finished if the nut was stuck on it....or put a bolt in there

My biggest annoyance was always catalytic converter studs on nissans...

I tried guys, it simply wouldnt seal. Hoping i can get away with tossing the new one in and tightening down. Opposed to having to completely re do it all.

yeah sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, a bolt can be a quick fix but make sure to get the right length ones you don't want it going in to deep and when it bottoms out it will strip out the threads on the head (aluminum) before anything happens to the bolt since the head is pretty soft metal.
so a short bolt can be a temp fix but ideally get a new stud or stud kit and replace them all.
They are probably like a M8x1.25 or something close to that maybe M10 if you can find it locally.

If it's too long/ bottoms out, use washers

FYI for future references:


"1JZ/2JZ Exhaust Stud, 10mmx1.25. These are factory Toyota exhaust studs, they go in the cylinder head to attach the exhaust manifold/s. They have a torx head to aid in installation and removal."

Found them on DM site for $2.30 each!
