I have a sc400, when I first got it it would skat. After about 4 days of having it now it barely wants to go and it eats gas like crazy when it didn't before and smells of gas bad enough to make you sick. When I go to accelerate it takes forever to shift thru the gears (it's automatic). Does anybody have any ideas of what it may be causing this? It's also a v8 but for a v8 it was very good on gas when I got it. There's no check engine light on so I'm confused as to what could be going on. Please help guys?

 

There are just too many things that can do this, you just are going to have to run down the many things it can be. Bad ecu capacitors, fuel pressure regulator, maf, tps, plugs, coils just to name a few most of which won't throw a code. Sorry to not be more help, but there isn't much to go on. Did you confirm your CEL is working? Does it come on when you first turn the key on?

 

No the CEL doesn't work at all. It's never come on since I've had the car. I've only had it for a little over a month now. On my next day off I'm going up to a friend of mines shop to try to see what I can figure out with it.

 

If the CEL doesn't light up at Key ON, it probably means a previous owner pulled the bulb. (It could also mean the bulb burned out, but they seem to last forever.) You have to remove the cluster from the dash to get to it.
