Default Drill-Free Bracket for License Plate Frames

I'm looking into making a bracket that would go into the grill of my car instead of with holes in the bumper. Anyone done this? I'm looking for something underneath there that A: already is tapped or B: could have something clamped under there. My car is in a truck coming accross the US so I can't measure underneath.

Looks like the newbie is going to have to boldly go where no previous owner has gone before

If you can't find anything, use a cable tie and attach it to the grill...

Now sure what year you are referring to, but on my 92, there are 2, if not more, holes underneath the topmost "grille" opening, perfect for attaching "L" shaped plate brackets that are easily fabricated from sheet metal. I only use a front plate when I have to, which is not often. So far, the only prob has been a few $25 "fix it" tix.

I even have a post on them w/pics - it is one of these two:

cool, I'm going to make something quick release. Sometimes I just want as little attention as possible. I don't like giving cops legit reasons to pull me over

-S

I don't want to do cable ties because of wind vibrations on the plate rubbing my paint.

Hmmm... I live in the DFW, TX area where front plates are required. I've been driving my '93 SC without front plates since it was new. I've never been stopped for that, nor have I ever been cited or warned about it during the times I was stopped by the police. Are they strict about that where you live?

Depends. If you are driving during the day, not going fast, and following all laws, then you are usually OK. Some cops however, like to pull over for that because it is their "thing" (most cops have a specific type of violation they like to cite). If it is 2 AM then you are fair game. It's just more hassle... That's why I want quick release.

for a while i had my front lp tied into the open space between my fog lights, but on 92-94's this gap is filled with an extra bar. i got tired of that look (made my car look buck-toothed ) so what im doing now is leaving my front license plate on my dash above the instrument panel. police never seem to hassle me (its not an uncommon practice here), which is surprising considering im in virginia (uber strict laws). if you dont mind having a slight reflection of yer lp in front of you at the cost of having clean lines on your exterior, then this setup will probably suit yu well enuff.

Here the dash is illegal, and I think it makes it more noticeable. Plus I don't like the idea of it going airborn when I get nailed by an SUV.
