I'll tell you, there's nothing better than being a working professional in your 30's with a bunch of guys in their late teens and early 20's looking over your shoulder so you don't misbehave...

I'm just surprised that this thread hasn't been moved or closed yet - give it time.
Is this a reference to me Ryan? Please explain.

Sincerely,

Ethan

I'll tell you, there's nothing better than being a working professional in your 40's reading about a guy in his 30's expressing sarcasm about a bunch of guys in their late teens and early 20's looking over his shoulder so he doesn't misbehave, when 70% of the bunch of guys mentioned have passed their early 20's and late teens.

It gets even better by taking the time to write a more sarcastic post like this.

Daddy-O,

I hope you read my follow up post to the sarcasm because I think it illustrates what I was really trying to convey in a more constructive fashion.

I really don't want people to think I am here to bash moderators. They do an important job. The only thing I have asked is they be a bit more tolerant of others who aren't familiar with all the rules and make a small violation with no bad intent in mind (see my prior examples).

This is about open discussion and getting to a better place than we were before. I'm sorry if I clouded the real issue with earlier sarcasm.

LOL Daddy-O.. Sorry just had to chime in on this thread.. As a former moderator/s-mod I have to admit policing the SC 300/400 forum was fun at times since the boiling point of a few individuals here is a bit lower that lets say the SC430 forum.. Yes age and perhaps even more mindset is what causes some folks to fly off the handle..

I have a younger brother mid 20's and I know how he acts when he thinks he is right.. Not a bad thing but honestly with age you get perspective and this isn't a knock against my younger CL members just an observation.. Live and learn and know when to pick your battles it will get you far in life!

Happy Holidays,

Ken

I might also add that age should have nothing to do with mod status at all. I am sure all of us can point out some 18 year olds that are more mature than some 40 year olds. Age should not have anything to do with how we respect others. Let their actions speak for themselves. All the mods are here to protect the integrity of this forum.

As for the talk of modifying the SCs, the number who actually do the mods are few and far between. As more people tinker with their SCs before their projects (like me) we would see people linger around until they have enough information to do major work. Yes there are some young SC owners out there and yes they will fight about saving pennies but they will eventually (hopefully ) start making more money to do projects.
It took me a year and a half on this forum before I decided to take the plunge and spend over $20k in mods for my SC. Now I have something to talk about and many more questions to discuss.

The forum is not slowing. Also do not forget that alot of traffic for the SC owners comes in the form of PMs too. My box fills up with PMs quick periodically. I would say that for every post I make there are a few PMs or IMs that follow.

In order to get some real good questions out there the users need to have a good base of information to work on. The FAQ would provide this. In the past I made a comment that if people included keywords at the end of their post then searching would be easier. We typically contract our words to make things easier to type (LSD, tranny,TC,MAF,FMIC,bhg, etc). For people who are used to these contractions it is easy, but for newbs this can lead to few returns on a search. People mocked my suggestion although I think it would have decreased repeat questions. I agree that posts such as "Help" can be pretty lame and it could be an additional task for moderators to rename vague posts. Users are lazy as a general rule and may search once or twice before doing what we know is a repeat post. We need a method to properly index posts for easy searching.

If someone posts a thread that is ambiguous then perhaps we can not just scold and say "Use the search function," but remind them to search and even perhaps attach a link to the search results and tell them what words to use in their search. This would yield more positive results.

Anyway I need to get back to work...

Here are the current projects I'm working on to date:

1) Apparel: T-shirts (x3 variations), jacket, mugs, sweater, hats, etc.

2) Website: We are going live with Version 1.2 in mid January. It contains A LOT of information. Data entry 10 hours a day for the last 4 weeks suck. Trust me...

3) Events: We are planning the next official ClubLexus event at a resort in spring or summer 2003.

4) Vendors: I don't allow any company to advertise even though they may have the cash. I look for 1) customer service and 2) quality products.

5) Newsletter: We are going live with the first official bi-yearly newsletter in April 2003. Putting a professional newsletter is not as easy as using "Microsoft Publisher".

6) Raffle products: Getting $10,000 in products is not as easy as people think. Did I mention this raffle will be stacked towards SC 400/300 owners because I noticed this group gets left out even though there is a tremendous amount of aftermarket products for this vehicle. Yes, I'm debating on including a turbo kit.

Please note, I NEVER have asked companies to give me stuff for my personal use. Some companies have offered to "hook me up", but I tell them to donate it to the annual ClubLexus raffle. My philosophy is retail price is the fair price; hence, I pay retail.

7) Brochure: After three months, we are printing our official brochure that will be distributed at certain dealerships.

Not bad for a kid at the age of 22 years old working 16 hours a day, seven days a week. Well, I don't call this work since I enjoy doing these things. Now granted I do not do everything myself since there is a team of volunteers behind the scenes, but organizing everything takes a bit of time.

Yes, a losing proposition I must say. Hopefully, members will see the benefit of becoming a premium member when we go live with Version 1.2.

Yep, my car is trashed. I just donated all of my 1995 SC 300 project money to support the Singapore Bible College.

We were looking to do a 2JZ-GTE engine swap with a T04r turbo kit. Some companies have offered me a break on parts and labor and even sponsorship. I wanted to pay full retail price.

Unfortunately, I will not be pursuing that project any longer.

GS4Fun, you are a premium member. Premium Member = Paid Member.

Ethan

edit: Ryan and I have discussed the issue and actually, I blew it out of proportion. I apologize to Ryan for making a scene out of it.
